APG Pile

10.5 Million Linear Feet And Counting

The Turn Key capabilities, experience of our supervisors and crew members has made it possible for us to complete more than 10.5 million linear feet, nearly 2000 miles, of Auger Pressure Grouted (APG) Piling and Auger Pressure Grouted Displacement (APGD) Piling construction from 2002 to 2004.

Success is more than just increased capacity and experienced personnel. It is the commitment to develop state-of-the-art equipment, to facilitate the successful completion of a project.

One such piece of equipment is the Berkel 1227 APG Rig icon which was placed into service in January 2005 in South Florida.

The new rig has a torque capacity of 90,000-ft-lbs and 55 R.P.M. top speed. The 110 foot rig was able to drill a 24 inch diameter pile in varying quality of rocks to a depth of 94 feet in a much shorter drilling time than previous rigs.

The lead design provides more stability with less than one degree of lead flex under full load. The new Berkel & Company rig utilitzes latest hydraulic technology, including a newly designed load sensing hydraulic power unit that allows maximum power to be transferred to the bit automatically without excessive jolting. This provides better productivity and less bit and teeth wear.

Berkel & Co. was contracted to install a soldier pile wall using Auger Pressure Grouted (APG) piles to serve as an earth retention system to support the existing school foundation during the adjacent new basement excavation process.

Today, piles can be installed to depths up to 130 feet and pile diameters of 12 to 24 inches, in 2 inch increments, and 30 and 36 inch diameters. The depth and capacity of the pile are dependent upon the load carrying requirements and the soil conditions.
